ow
so out of like 20 years fearlessly approaching any dog that crosses my path incl rotties, pitbulls and bull terriers, and huge dogs like the great danes my exes parents were honestly afraid would knock me over because i was so teeny, i got my first dog bite. this is odd because i know dogs, i can tell when they're pissy and i know how to approach them.

i am actually not surprised at this. terriers are bred killers. granted, of rats, but statistically they are more likely to bite than bigger dogs... they just arent as likely to do serious damage, so people are scareder of the traditionally "bad" breeds.

anyway im typing one-handed so i'll be slow on rp i guess. i have to wait and see. if it gets worse dad will prob take me to the dr. its on a tendon so its bruising and swelling a little.

eta!
my camera is really not good with the close ups but you get the idea

my poor hand :(

that's so weird. All of the Westies I know are sweet as can be, and my dog is a cairn terrier which are like, doggie breed cousins and she wouldn't hurt a fly. (A squirrel, though, she would definitely hurt. If she could catch it, cause she's old and blind now. Oh, and my brother's guinea pig. But you're right about the rats thing.)

most dogs ive met regardless of breed are super sweet. :/ i guess it depends on the bloodlines and individual dog.

Figures! Most of the big "dangerous" dogs I've met have turned out to be wonderfully friendly and even-tempered. Some of them could knock me over with ease, without even meaning to, but intend harm? They didn't know how. Any time a dog's taken a 'tude with me, it's been a little dog, too.

yes the great danes were basically bigger than me, but danes are harmless, and the pitties and bull terriers i've met were super friendly. i vaguely remember there used to be a cocker spaniel on our street who got put down for biting and aggression too.

of course the responsible owners with big/"dangerous" dogs usually try extra to train them well coz they're big/"dangerous".

Any breed of dog can bite. It's just the bigger dog's have bigger mouths and do more damage so they get the most publicity. Bull terriers do some the worst damage because their jaws can 'lock' closed so it can be difficult to get them to let go.

I got bitten by a labrador that lived across the road when I was 3. Sweetest dog you'd ever want to meet, it had just been wound up and pestered beyond belief by the kids of the people visiting the people across the road and when I came past I was just the straw that broke the camel's back even though I was outside the property. The owners were horrified when my parents went over to tell them what had happened.

Apparently labradors are pretty common biters too - though that might be partly because they're a common breed for families with kids to have, and kids are, face it, more likely to not know when a dog is saying "omg go away". My uncle keeps labradors though. :) He even trains them to not eat unless a specific command is given, which for a labrador is mad skillz. (Funny story - he went away once and had someone dog sitting and forgot to tell them the command. He got a phone call after two days with the sitter panicking because this labrador wouldn't eat. *facepalm*)

I have an irrational love for terriers and yeah, I've been bitten by them before. Thank God they generally give out 'two warnings' before they lock in their teeth into their flesh.

Yeah I think it was probably a warning bite since it was a snap and let go - which means it's bypassing the growling warning. :/ But at least it didn't go straight for the terrier "I MONCH YOU AND SHAKE" rat-kill bite. That would have hurt a lot more.
