Overheard at home
(on tv) Merlin: The future isn't set in stone!
Me: But some points in time are fixed. Like Pompeii.
Dad: But if you go back far enough you could change it.
Sister: Not Pompeii, it's a fixed point.
Mum: According to who?
Me+Sister: Dr Who!
Sister: He should know, he's a Timelord.
Me: And he's the one who blew it up.

I love how many fandoms involve Pompeii. Such as Highlander, where I believe that the story was that two Immortals fought each other on Holy Ground and thus caused it to erupt.

I did think it would have been so, so amazing in the Dr Who ep in Pompeii had borrowed John Barrowman to just walk through the back of a scene somewhere, because we know Jack was at Pompeii at least once.

But it's Pompeii. Pompeii's just awesome. For some reason the very first time I heard about it something about it made me go "oooooh..."

My fandoms have a tendency to involve Jack the Ripper. I guess storytellers are just drawn to these things somehow.

Mine probably could do if it wanted... Though I also have an RP character who grew up very close to where Jack the Ripper worked, in the time that the Kray twins were big, and even went to Reggie Kray's wedding (where "went to" means he was one of the people who just wandered over and gawked at the wedding party etc coming out of the church). He was like 10 at the time. Background detail, woot.
