Of course...
Vegetables and treats: $25
Toys: $30
Rabbit ignoring them all to tear up a piece of cardboard: Priceless.

He is, however, now eating the treats I got him that are good for preventing hairballs. I only got them (and another variety of the same brand that helps control odor) because they actually do some good and he's only getting a few a week. I was rather more unimpressed by prettily dyed "rabbit and guinea pig fruit and vegetable treats" with "high protein and fibre" - 9% protein and 4.2% fibre. FOUR POINT TWO? That is not high! Fat was 6%, and personally I try to feed things that are more like... 20% fibre, 3% fat. This is why he lives off hay, pellets and vegetables.

My kitties are like that too - a basket full of plush mice and foam rubber balls, and all they want is the plastic cap from the orange juice, or a stray scrap of paper.

lol yes exactly. No point getting them a present, they just want the wrapping.

in holly's case I think a big part is that he's starting puberty, I will have to get him fixed soon - I am probably asking about cost etc on friday. he's still super sweet and all, but he never chewed like this before. luckily it is mostly cardboard, not cords.

Aww, bunny puberty! Somehow, it sounds so much cuter when it refers to bunnies...

The kitties got fixed at 4 and 6 months respectively. Sheba was spayed at 4 months, when she was still in the shelter. That was probably too young, but it's the shelter's policy to have them fixed before they're adopted out. We got Leo at a different shelter, and they gave us a discount voucher for the procedure and asked us to wait until he was at least 6 months old (he was only 3 months when we god him).

And I remember that pretty-colored food/treats from when I had hamsters. They were such a rip-off, really crappy nutritional value. I just gave them real veggies and bits of cheese instead.

Yeh Holly's four and a half months now, I believe females can be spayed as early as three and a half. Rabbits is young though considering how short their lifespan is in the wild-- and omg I was at the chain petstore yesterday and the label on the rabbit tanks said lifespan was 4-6 years. I was like "WHAT? A well cared for rabbit can live over 10 years!" But then they also had them on a food mix that had a pile of seeds and shit in it. Rabbits and guinea pigs do not have the same dietary requirements, guise. Rabbits are lagomorphs. They don't eat seeds.

My guideline is basically that anything that's been prettified to appeal to humans probably isn't that great for the animals.
