Blaise and Zacharias lol. They were so awesome.

ETA: As are Dorian and East. Everyone's memories lost (don't ask), they mistakenly assume, based on the evidence, that they're going out.
ETA2: lmfao. Esh wrote a quick post-amnesia fic. Normally I love me my seriously realism RP, but there's just something to be said for this kind of hilarity.

I have a 382 page book that yesterday, in a fit of madness, I agreed to summarise for people who don't have access to a manual on 19th century etiquette. I'm currently trying to decide exactly how to go about this. I'll be doing it chapter by chapter, I imagine. Either I ask for posting access to Dark Dissension's wiki and host it there, or I spam this journal with it, or I spam [info]keisarmy with it (and likely link to it from somewhere on this journal, because really, who doesn't want 19th century etiquette information?). I'm leaning towards [info]keisarmy at the moment.

I also have melon sorbet that I am counting as a half-success. It's currently in the freezer. Probably I should follow actual recipes until I know what the texture and consistency should be, and also not put hot water/sugar into the ice bowl thing, because that makes it not be icy so much.

Melon sorbet sounds soo, oh so good.

I don't mind whatever you do. If you are worried about spamming your flist, I suppose you could post everything backdated. That way, the posts wont show up on flists but will still be public.

True enough. I could at the very least do an index post with the chapter listings and edit in links as I get them done, too...

It's 382 pages. D: lol. And of that, thirty chapters. Thirty one if you count the "Language of flowers" appendix. I think if I do summaries of every chapter I probably won't end up doing them in order, either, more like a) what I feel like, and b) things that are more general first, and specifics about cards and stuff later.

The very basics of etiquette, to sum up the entire book, are that a well-bred person ought to act to others as he would have them act to him. Manners, politeness, kindness and nobility are the difference between those with breeding and those without, and should be adhered to at all times. Conversation should never be centered on a divisive subject, gossip, or anything cruel or hurtful that might cause hard feelings. It's vulgar to speak of money more than is absolutely necessary, or personal accomplishments that could be seen as boasting to someone who doesn't know you well. Women as well as men ought to be well-schooled, though in different subjects, and including physical education which leads to grace of movement and a good posture. Strong emotions should be avoided, as well as heat in opinions. Respect should be shown at all times towards ladies, even if they're not present, and inferiors should never be made to feel as such - when they're invited as guests, they should be treated as equals. Intruding on privacy, breaking engagements, making allusions to private matters in public, pressing someone to continue a sentence/thought/question that they've stopped themselves from completing, boasting, ridiculing others, addressing an acquaintance by their Christian name, scolding someone in public, haughtiness, reading amongst company, and checking the time while in conversation are all vulgar, some moreso than others.

(Most of that summary came from "General rules to govern conduct", I will admit.)

I'm honestly not quite sure what they did talk about, after all the rules about what you shouldn't. :P But I think, with everyone living by the same guidelines, you'd know what to expect at least. That always makes things easier.

Indeed. I suspect we would talk about the whether and eligible young men when there was no one around.
