THIS IS WHAT MY BRAIN DOES WHEN I'M SICK.

If your characters had to teach a class at Hogwarts, which class would they choose?

Astra would pick Charms, or in BW-era the household magic course. Benjy, obviously, Arithmancy (or Healing, if in an era or fanon where that's an option). Pepper I think would take great delight in teaching History of Magic Reenacted by Dinosaurs. You know, for the boring bits.

AND I SHALL CALL IT.... THIS LAND!

I love being a bitch to people on Yahoo Answers. It's their fault for asking stupid as fuck questions.

I have read two more Torchwood books and I like these ones that are set in mid season two because they actually have Ianto in them. I was expecting to like Trace Memory more than Pack Animals, but Pack Animals was so much fucking cooler. That shit was awesome. (Though Ianto's "I am bored, barefoot, eating pizza and having a James Bondathon" moments in TM were pretty neat. And him and Jack "having the place to themselves", but only as long as it didn't interrupt his James Bondathon. I'm imagining Jack doing distracting things to him while he watches Goldfinger, now...)

and a fucking meme )

The first ten people who comment in this post get to request a drabble length fic (i.e., about 100 words) of any pairing/character & one-word/short phrase prompt of their choosing from me. In return, they have to post this in their journal.

I'll be posting them on [info]pocketotter, not here.

AND HI, I JUST CLEANED MY FLIST (I only dropped people who didn't have me friended anyway) AND ADDED PEEPS FROM EX-O. This is where I sit and blather about whatever's on my mind, which is usually Torchwood, my epically cute bunny who is sometimes an utter twat but who's my utter twat and his teeny adorable feets make up for it, random snippets of my everyday life, bitching about mental illness or the healthcare system, or one of the other tv shows I watch. Or sometimes RP stuff, but I try to keep most of my RP meta on [info]pocketotter. Also I have a fuckton of crazy animal icons.

Need to update my character roster.

(Incidentally I decided on [info]iantoefingjones, ty embb. His interests are ever-lasting peace and damn fine coffee. And Jack. Naked. Or in the coat.)

Meme

Youtube clips of PBs:

Pepper (Louis Garrel) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1A7lA8dcB6E Garrel talking about The Dreamers, in English, which is quite obviously his second language.
Astra (Leighton Meester) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3l9Bt-mlyWA ok this is a soundtrack just with clips mixed onto it, but it's actually her singing, so I'm including it anyway. BUT! We also find out her fave shoes! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hlKKWPKFi0
Florence (Sarah Lawrence) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-eYPMyoHKA skip to 2.45 to see Darlene being pissed off at a racist twat
Dung (Finlay Robertson) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4p58K07FdQ skip to about 2.20 to see him actually talking and then there's a few more throughout. he has a super accent, I love when him and Carey and David are all talking together.

I also have bunny pictures, but not a handwriting meme because my camera is too crap.

x6 picturs )

If you're wondering why his ear is flopping forward instead of to the side, that's because of the headtilt - he twists his head around to groom and then when he lifts it again his ear doesn't fall back properly. I feel bad for laughing but it's hilariously cute.

Post a single sentence from each WIP you have (or as many as you want to pick). No context, no explanations. No more than one sentence!

"We don't ha--" he starts, and Zacharias doesn't want to hear it, doesn't want pity and freebies, it's his shitty life and he wants to own it, so he sucks in a breath and kisses him.

"Ugh, you're right, I am... considerably inebriated," he decided, a lofty tone imbuing the words with even more highborn intelligence than they would otherwise have.

I look around for a moment as though I'm visiting someone's house for the first time and don't know quite what to do, then I remember that this is my apartment, and I make the rules here, and then I pull my legs up so my feet are on the fabric and I can wrap my arms tightly around my knees.

He was incredibly and unreasonably attracted to Aubrey and would very much like to tie him to his bed and shag him senseless all weekend.

There was something to be said about being able to look out all around and see no one at all between you and the horizon, to be able to entertain yourself all day with just your own thoughts.

When Bags announces her intention of running for Minister, Pepper throws a fit and insists that he has no desire to train a new boss and will be voting for the other guy.

Pepper interrupts his thoughts with a wry tone, eyebrow arched, and nudges one hip against the bench in a way that makes Aubrey want to stare at them again, but the fact that he'd just been caught at it is already making him flush in embarrassment.

"I know you get off on being miserable, but really, there is a limit."

Blaise has always been better at those subtly insulting looks than he has, but then he's lucky enough to have an incredibly fine-featured face.

With his clean-cut shirt and big long coat it's very dramatic and would probably be kind of sexy if Pepper wasn't tied to a bed in some crazy-arse secret hideout or Muggle government lock up or whatever the fuck this was.

How shocking and unexpected

According to the 4-grid Sorting Hat Test people are taking I'm Ravenclaw (at 63% Orderly, 35% Moral) and Pepper is Slytherclaw (53/19). The "which Weasley do you identify with the most" question was really hard to answer, both for myself and for Pepper.

I've just finished the iconning for the second part of Sense and Sensibility so tomorrow I'll sort the caps for the final part and have a go at finishing some of the sets. Oddly, of the four people I'm iconning from the miniseries, three of them are men and one is a preteen. (Well. In the book Margaret Dashwood is thirteen*, though I'd have picked her as more like 11-12 from both the Emma Thompson movie version and the miniseries.) Dominic Cooper I wasn't intending to icon at all but his face is really interesting, so I added him in, then realised he actually doesn't make any expressions. But I'm iconning him anyway. He's really well-cast as Willoughby, IMO, because he's capable of looking like a complete and utter twat.

* I finished reading Mansfield Park and started S&S and yes, I'm still a Henry/Fanny girl. Incidentally, in the Bertram house on Sims, the Crawfords stopped by and Henry and Fanny had two very short attempts at conversation (apparently she likes desks and he doesn't) before running off to have a water balloon fight. Someone needs to learn to cook well so I can get Fanny and Julia into private school.

ooer, another one

My f-list is prolific with memes today.

* Post three things you've done that you believe no one else reading has done.
* If anyone responds with "I've done that", add another thing.
* Encourage your friends to paste this into their own journal to list the unique things they've done.

Been to the Waitomo Caves.
Ridden a cow. You crazy hicks.
Been invited in for a "cup of tea" at one in the morning by an attractive man - and actually had a cup of tea.
As a child, played at one of the filming locations for Heavenly Creatures.
Skipped the country. One week's planning, waited for housemate to leave, packed, taxi to train station.

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 56.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next seven sentences in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.

In addition to speaking properly, a well-bred woman studied the fine art of conversation. It seems she needed the help. Based on the advice given, she was apparently kept silent for so long that when called upon to converse, she blurted out the details of Uncle Ed's appendectomy in a loud, nasal tone while spraying her companions with every consonant.

Vocabulary was another area for study and improvement. Women were warned against using the term "ma'am" and the phrase "pleased to meet you". A long list of forbidden slang words must have been quite effective, because today no one's ever heard of most of them. (Try to translate: "The yappy frails jawed about the spiffilicated stew bum.")

(If you're curious, it means the foolish girls talked about the drunk... drunkard. Or loafer. Loafer will do.) I actually had two books in easy grabbing distance, so here's the second:

She crushed something - another wasp, of course, what else - even as it stung her again, even as she opened her eyes and saw them all around her: yellow-brown insects that looked weighted down in the tailsection, plump ungainly poison factories.

She had slid into a dead tree standing at the foot of the slope about twenty-fice feet from the brawling streamlet. In the dead tree's lowest fork, just at eye level to a little girl who was nine but tall for her age, was a gray paper nest. Agitated wasps were crawling all over it; more were flying out of a hole in the top.

Pain needled the right side of Trisha's neck, just below the bill of her cap. Another sting lit up her right arm above the elbow.

Advice from the Attic and Stephen King's The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.
